10 Questions With: Model Hunter Westfall
If Hunter Westfall’s face looks familiar, it’s because he looks like (an insanely handsome version of) the guy next door. Or maybe it’s because he’s signed to IMG and models for, well, every major big and tall brand? Either way, he’s a great guy and was kind enough to share some of his insights with me. In turn, I am kind enough to share them with you. What can I say? I’m a giver.
Now, on to Hunter!
What is your favorite part of being big and/or tall?
I embrace my size in all aspects of life. I look at it as a blessing and enjoy being the tallest in the room. Only more recently have I gained some weight and I love the way I look and feel.
What is the hardest part of being big and/or tall?
Traveling, especially on airplanes. With my job I'm constantly on a plane to travel for work. Unfortunately, being a bigger guy who’s 6'7" isn't always comfortable for a cross country flight.
If you could only wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I'm all about comfort and I love a good t-shirt and gym shorts with slippers. However, if I have to show my face I like dark jeans, a quarter zip sweater, and a pair of nice oxford shoes with a watch.
What is one fashion item every person should own?
Everybody is different and has their own style, but I think accessories can make or break an outfit. I think a nice watch can add a lot to a casual outfit or a black tie event.
What are your go-to stores or sites for clothes?
DXL, Belk (big and tall), Marshall's, Ross, Nordstrom, and Perry Ellis.
What do you wish retailers would do differently?
Variety. Big and tall has been looked at as an afterthought, and the selection is the bare minimum. I would hope to see a full selection of styles, colors, and fits moving forward. Big guys want to dress well and be able to "shop" instead of having to settle on what's there.
What does being “body positive” mean to you?
Confidence in yourself, in who you are as a person and what you bring to the table. Everybody has something special about them and we all need to open our eyes and look for the best in everybody. Embracing not just the way you look and feel, but helping others see their value and worth.
What is your biggest style regret?
When I flew up to NYC to meet with my agency for the first time, I was wearing a black T-shirt, dark jeans, brown loafers with a black belt. My knowledge of matching your belt and shoes was absent. I quickly learned after signing with a agency a lot of the do's and dont's of fashion.
Who are your style icons?
Kevin Love, professional basketball player. He has great style for a big and tall guy and has range in the variety of styles he chooses.
