Oh, hi.

Welcome to extraextrastyle, a place for big & tall guys like me to celebrate their love for fashion - and themselves.

The Best Beauty Products I Never Use

The Best Beauty Products I Never Use

When it comes to skincare and beauty, I’m #blessed to have friends in all the right places. Whether they work at beauty brands, have their own beauty brands (hello, Megababe!), or are beauty editors, my friends are always generous with their industry knowledge - and their samples. I’ve gotten to try some of the best products in the world (like the Cle de Peau Cotton Pads , Augustinus Bader The Cream , and the Dr. Barbara Sturm Enzyme Cleanser) at the best price in the world - FREE.

So what do I do with these fab products when I discover them? Usually I immediately add them to my beauty routine and they become staples Forever and Ever, Amen. But sometimes there’s a product I try, fall in love with, and then never reach for again. Why? I don’t know. I hope by listing them down below I will:

A. Convince you to try ‘em

B. Convince myself to reach for ‘em

So, here are my favorite beauty products I just don’t use:

Bobbi Brown Buffing Grains - I’ve had these in my medicine cabinet for…4 years? The friend who gave them to me doesn’t even live in NYC anymore. And the first thing that came up when I googled these is the word “discontinued.” Soooo…my B. But these are great if you can find ‘em somewhere. You just add a shake or two (I add about 2,000,000) to either water or your existing cleanser for an exfoliation that is not harsh but leaves your face feeling smooth like…pudding. And I don’t mean tapioca. Here are some alternatives that look intriguing (some feature the same Adzuki Bean Powder to exfoliate): Tatcha Rice Polish, Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant.

Dior Fix It 2-in-1 Prime & Color Correct - This comes in three different colors depending on what you’re trying to color correct (the green shade is good to combat redness). I use the yellow shade under my eyes. It’s super easy to apply, looks luxurious, and makes my concealer last longer without creasing. But I never reach for it. I am lazy.

Drunk Elephant TLC Sukari Babyfacial Mask - I force myself to do a mask once every two weeks (did I mention I am lazy?). And when I do, it’s this one. It’s strong as hell, but if you want a mask that feels (and looks!) like it’s working, then this is it. Thankfully this is so strong you’re only supposed to use it once a week anyway.

Koh Gen Do.jpg

Koh Gen Do Brightening Moisture Powder - Back pre-pandemic when I was working in the office and had coworkers other than my husband, I wore this powder to work for the first time and got an unsolicited compliment on my skin. I’d like to think it was my inner joy shining through, but i have a feeling it was this powder (I also like Koh Gen Do’s concealer a lot!). Why don’t I wear this every day? I have a lot of powders to get through! And get off my back!

Do you have any beauty products you love but don’t use? Tell me I’m not alone!
