Oh, hi.

Welcome to extraextrastyle, a place for big & tall guys like me to celebrate their love for fashion - and themselves.

The Best Skin Tints for No-Makeup Makeup

The Best Skin Tints for No-Makeup Makeup

You know I love powder (exhibit A here) but sometimes powder can make even my oily skin look, well, powdery. Luckily there’s nothing I love more than solving a problem, especially if it involves a trip to Bloomingdale’s (who, by the way, has a beauty sale on now).

I didn’t want foundation for two reasons:

  1. How the F are you supposed to tell what color you are online?

  2. I wear my collar up a lot and I didn’t want it to rub off on my clothing.

Enter skin tint! I was looking for something that would give me “my skin but better” with very (very very) sheer coverage. The below are all fantastic choices and I love them all for different reasons. I’ve organized them below in order from MOST coverage to LEAST coverage.

La Mer - “The Radiant SkinTint”

This is the most radiant of the trio - le duh

La Mer’s SkinTint is the skin tint of this trio which is most like a tinted moisturizer. It contains SPF 30 and gives my skin a healthy glow. It doesn’t cover blemishes, but it sort of blends them in. Your skin looks healthier than it did before application and very “normal.” Sometimes by the afternoon my own natural “radiance” (read: oil) is poking through and I’ll need to powder. I wear “Medium” in this, but the truth is since each of these formulas is so sheer the shade is very flexible. This purports to have skincare benefits, including the famous La Mer “Miracle Broth.”

Chanel - Les Beiges Water Fresh Tint

Two words that start with “C” - CHANEL and CHIC

Two words that start with “C” - CHANEL and CHIC

The Chanel Water Fresh Tint has SUCH a unique formula - the color is actually suspended in, well, water and bursts when you use blend it with the included brush. Chanel says to apply it to the back of your hand, burst the pigments, and then apply to your face with the included brush. So, that’s what I do! The result is perfect, porcelain looking skin. I got shade “Medium Light,” but probably could’ve gotten Medium. Again, the shades are super flexible, so I’ll just keep using the one I have until it’s time to repurchase. And repurchase I will! I love this. Everything from the packaging to the results can be described using one word: refined.

Biologique Recherche Serum de Teint

This is SHEER. SHEER I tell you. Like, so sheer that sometimes you’re like, “wait, did I apply this yet?” But give it a few minutes (I find it needs to “set”) and voila - perfect skin. Skin so perfect that you chase your husband around the house saying, “Look at my skin! Look at my skin!” Oh wait, just me? Ok. Stop me if I’ve said this one before, but the shades are very flexible here. I wear #2 - #1 was too pink, #3 too peachy. But SHEER remember? So don’t panic about it. This also purports to have skincare benefits and, in fact, is called a “protector and perfector” because it forms a barrier on your skin to block out pollution. Cool.

And, finally, two I haven’t tried yet but I’m curious about!

Glossier Perfecting Skintint - this is, perhaps, the O.G. of the category. What’s stopped me from purchasing is that I’m not sure it will play well with my oily skin. From the YouTube research I’ve done, it seems that this is perhaps better for dry skin.

Saie Beauty Slip Tint - This is a “clean” beauty option from my buddy Laney Crowell, which I know is important to some folks. The only reason I haven’t tried this yet is cuz of I’ve got three other skin tints to use up. But it’s on my list!

Do you have any favorite skin tints from the above list? Or not from the above list? Always looking to try stuff out, so let me know!
