Three Fashion Trends I Started
I know you find it shocking, but I'm not always ahead of the curve when it comes to pop culture. For example, with music, I am a solid 6-8 years behind everyone else. (Have you heard of that great new band Green Day??).
BUT there have a been a few instances in the last couple of years where I was so far ahead of the fashion trend that I'm comfortable saying I started the trend. Don't believe me? I don't care. Just let me have it, ok?
Birkenstocks
I look like a German hiker - and I like it.
I started wearing Birkenstocks in elementary school (after promising my parents with every bit of my little 4th grade heart that I would take good care of them), but after junior high they sat in my closet. Until 2012, that is, when I single-handedly brought them back into our collective consciousness. They just felt right (or so wrong they were right, either way). I wore them to the office and people were AGHAST. Until they started copying me, that is.
My absolute favorite version is the two-strap Arizona in rubber. I own them in orange. And blue. And white. They're affordable, comfortable, waterproof (wear them right into the water at the beach!) and odor-free. Voila.

Fun Shirts
Yes, I have a "mustache" and no, I don't want to hear about tit.
What makes shirt a fun shirt? Not sure. But to me it's a shirt that mixes different patterns and/or colors for each of its panels. Summer 2016 was about the fun polo (finally found at Brooks Brothers). Summer 2017 was about the fun shirt (found one at Vineyard Vines that I have worn to every baby shower since). Now, fun shirts are everywhere - including the a super cool make-your-own options at Brooks Brothers. Don't want to spend $250? I've been wearing this $92 version all spring (literally, ask my coworkers).

Ok, this one I stole from a former coworker. But he doesn't read my blog so I can safely say I invented this trend, too. Do it with thin turtlenecks, do it with chunky turtlenecks, just do it.
