Oh, hi.

Welcome to extraextrastyle, a place for big & tall guys like me to celebrate their love for fashion - and themselves.

These LL Bean Slippers Are the Only Thing That Makes Quarantine Bearable

I didn’t choose the WFH life, but WFH chose me. The truth is, I’m an in-office kind of guy. I like waking up and having someplace to go, a reason to get dressed, and people to gab with. So when the realities of the Work from Home struck back in March (!!) I was unprepared.

Desk? Sure, have one. (Pro tip: head to the hardware store and buy new hardware for your furniture if you don’t like what’s on there. It’s a super easy and cheap way to change up the look of your pieces).

A lovely Ferragamo notebook and luxurious Montblanc pens and every size of Muji sticky notes? Check, check and HELL YES.

But what about footwear? We are a shoe-free household, so slippers are in heavy rotation around here. But I never found a pair that I truly loved…until now.

LL Bean Wicked Good Scuffs in Kelp Green

LL Bean Wicked Good Scuffs in Kelp Green

These LL Bean Wicked Good Scuffs blasted onto my radar in March, but at the time I wasn’t buying anything that wasn’t food. Uncertain times, you know? Cut to May when I couldn’t stop thinking about the slippers (literally couldn’t stop - that’s one of the “charms” of an anxious brain like mine). I decided I needed them, punched up the LL Bean site, and saw that I wasn’t alone in my admiration - the scuffs were backordered until mid-July. Per of course. But I figured good things were worth waiting for, so I ordered them.

Now, they’re here and they’re spectacular. I can’t believe I have more to say about sub-$100 slippers, but I do. In no particular order, here’s what I like about them:

  • They slip on. Granted, I am very, very lazy, but I hate having to awkwardly balance on one foot while I tug the back of a slipper over my heel. These are just slip on and go (Go where? Who knows!).

  • They have a rubber bottom. I like a little sole on my slippers. Too thin and you feel like you’re just wearing socks on hardwood. Too thick and you feel like you’re wearing shoes. To quote Goldilocks, “These are just right.”

  • I thought the shearling would be hot. It’s not.

  • They fit my size 12 wide feet perfectly. A tiny, tiny bit snug at first but they stretch out and conform to your feet. I was contemplating ordering a size up, but I’m glad I didn’t (FYI - they’ve available up to size 14).

Apparently I am very passionate about slippers. But guess what - you should be too. These are great. Stay home. Wear a mask. The end.
