What to Expect When You're Expecting: A Chemical Peel
I walk by Ject’s West Village location on my way to and from work, and it’s always been intriguing. It’s a small storefront that looks like it could be a high-end boutique. Well, I guess it is a high-end boutique - only they sell Botox, fillers, medical-grade peels, and lasers instead of, like, jewelry or handbags. Perhaps good skin is the best accessory?
When the team from JECT reached out and asked if I wanted a chemical peel, I immediately said yes. Then I realized I had no idea what I was saying yes to - I’ve never had a chemical peel or any other medical aesthetic procedure. So I figured I’d write this post to share my experience in case you too are looking to try a procedure out.
I walked in to JECT’s West Village location (they also have one in the Hamptons) around 6:30PM and was greeted by JECT’s founder & CEO Gabby Garritano. I filled out a questionnaire about my skin (oily and acne prone) and my medical history and then was escorted back to a recliner behind a curtain for the actual peel. I chatted with Gabby about what was about to happen, her skin (perfect) and whether she does her own Botox (sometimes).
She leaned the chair back, and started applying the chemical peel. She said I might feel some tingling and that my face might get warm. She asked me if I was experiencing any discomfort and asked me to rate my discomfort on a scale from 1-10. I felt absolutely no discomfort, cross my heart.
Fifteen minutes later - that was it! No redness, no discomfort, no down-time, nothing - just glowy skin that I immediately took a photo of:
My skin was clear, glowy, and luminous (if I do say so myself). I skipped my full skincare routine that night and just washed my face with a gentle cleanser and applied a basic moisturizer. Gabby said my skin would continue to improve over the next few days (she was right).
When I heard “chemical peel” I thought I would be walking around with a scary, red, flakey face. I might indeed have a scary face, but I can’t blame that on JECT (lolz). I loved my experience and I’ll definitely be back!
Not yet ready for a professional peel? I’ve also used the Dr. Gross Alpha Beta Extra Strength Daily Peel pads and the Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial with great results. Not the same as a professional peel, but great for maintenance between appointments.
